Design-Build Business Development Manager

KTA-Tator, Inc. (KTA) is a consulting engineering firm, internationally recognized as a leading expert in protective coatings and linings.  Its five business units comprise the $40 million KTA enterprise offering a broad range of inspection services, evaluation, and testing in nearly every industry in the U.S. and abroad.  KTA is often sought after for its coatings expertise on multimillion-dollar bridge coatings design and construction inspection projects. 

KTA is looking for a business development champion with a strong understanding of all aspects of the Design-Build and Public, Private Partnership (P3) processes to spearhead efforts in capturing future business opportunities to augment KTA’s growth. A complete understanding of the KTA client engagement lifecycle to surpass client demands and articulate our expertise in fulfilling their needs will be key in embracing this challenging role. In twelve months, you will know you have been successful when you have: 

  • Developed strategies for establishing personal relationships and partnerships with key engineering firms, construction firms, and transportation agencies across the country, to position KTA as the specialty consultant of choice for coatings design/inspection services and steel and concrete inspection services; 
  • Managed the transition from identifying and securing new business, in alignment with KTA’s business strategy and company needs, to proposal development, award, and successful completion, with continued client relationship maintenance; 
  • Sought out, researched, and identified prospective Design-Bid-Build, Design Build, and P3 opportunities across the country, ideally 2 to 3 years in advance; 
  • Taken ownership of project capture efforts through coordinating with Business Unit Managers and the corporate marketing department to develop a baseline capture plan and follow-through with proposal development, bid strategies, pricing, teaming, and ensuring proposals are clear, compelling, concise, and timely; and 
  • Forecasted the demand for KTA services in DBB, DB, and P3, 5 years into the future.  

Ultimately, the successful candidate will enhance KTA’s presence in the industry by leveraging our service offerings to pursue and win design-build and P3 engineering projects in the coatings design, inspection and consulting arena, and in steel and concrete inspection.  The position suggests a B.S. degree in Engineering or Construction Management, requires in-depth knowledge of government contract acquisition, and proven business acumen with business development experience. The incumbent will work out of the corporate office in Pittsburgh, PA. Physical requirements include close vision, ability to adjust focus, hearing, sitting for long periods of time, and speaking.
